Leatherworking
The leather work represents an art in the Berber culture of North Africa especially for the Tuaregs. Animals are bred for food, clothes, bags, saddles, and water bags, rugs, shoes, wallets and many other items used in their everyday lives. Everything is done by hand. Sometimes you noticed some imperfections with the items, that is because no machines were used. Sometimes products are slightly different than what you see on the pictures, and that is for the same reason. Please let us know if you don't agree with that.
The leather for its flexibility and resistance is used for making a multitude of objects in Algeria (horse saddles, slippers, cushions, handbags, etc. ...). The most active centres are the highlands, the Hoggar and the Mzab. Big cities like Tlemcen, Constantine retained the expertise of artisan tannery (debbaghines), but now this knowledge is lost faced with competition from Europe.
The craft of Tuareg in this area presents originalities such as taghallabt, an object shaped wallet or aghreg, which is a travel bag. The leather of the region comes from goats or camels. It is coloured with copper oxide giving it green hues and decorated with symbols of the Tifinagh inspired alphabet.
In Kabylia, sheepskins and goatskins are also sometimes transformed to make bags and travel bags without decoration.Currently the Algerian leather sector is in crisis and needs rehabilitation due to globalization and severe competition (Inspiration from Wikipedia.org)

Un tout tout grand merci pour votre gentille réponse, Hacene! Oui, je sais que les parlers berbères sont très nombreux. En décembre j'étais dans la région des Kel Tamacheq près de Djanet, rien À voir avec la langue berbère du Haut-Atlas au Maroc. Et j'ai en effet l'impression d'entendre des différences entre la langue d'Inzanzaren et de Tinariwen! Vous etes Kabyle d'Algérie... donc vous parlez plutot comme Idir ;-!? Je profiterais de votre gentillesse en vous demandant ceci. Savez-vous comment je pourrais écrire : BON COURAGE A TOUTE LA FAMILLE dans une langue berbère la plus proche de celle parlée dans le Haut-Atlas (ce cher ami qui a perdu son papa habite dans "La Vallée heureuse") ? Je recherchais une paire de boucle d'oreilles particulière et j'ai trouvé ce site. Malheureusement, il n'y en avais pas en vente. Alors j'ai pris contact et on m'a proposé de la commander si il la trouverais lors d'un voyage dans le désert algérien. A son retour, j'ai reçue un mail ainsi qu'une photo pour me prévenir qu'il l'avait trouvé. Elles sont magnifiques, le produit est de grande qualité, Je les ai reçue très rapidement. Le vendeur est à l'écoute et peut vous procurer les produits qui ne sont pas forcément en vente dans sa boutique. Je suis vraiment ravie d'avoir fait cette transaction.

Azul fellawen Cela fait quelques semaines que j'ai découvert ce site berbére et c'est presque chaque jour que je rentre pour l'exploiter de plus en plus. Ce que j'ai aimé dans ton site Hacene est le fait que tu as inclus un peu de tout : la poésie, l'histoire, les traditions,........etc .De penser a inclure : les sites, les travaux, accomplies par les autres ma beaucoup touché, car cela prouve ta bonne foie de vouloir valoriser et rendre connu tout ce qui a rapport avec nous les berberes. Je t'encourage a perseverer Hacene et de y aller plus loin avec ca. L'Australie est un pays ou notre communauté ne se retrouve pas trop, alors j'imagine qu'il faut plus de travail et d'efforts qu'ailleurs , Mais je comprends également que vous avez le plus important : la volonté et la patience .
