Kabylia
Kabylia (Tamurt n Leqvayel in Tamazight, Kabylie in French), is a vast region in the northern side of Algeria along the Mediterranean Sea. Kabylia comprises several provinces (Known as wilaya) such as Tizi-ouzou (The large Kabylia or Tizi Wezzu), Bejaia (The small kabylia or Vgayet), Bouira (Tubiret), Boumerdes, Setif, Jijel, Bordj Bou Arreridj, Gouraya national Park and Djurdjura national Park.
The inhabitants of kabylia are Kabyles, which represent a quarter of the Algerian population, however live throughout Algeria and migrate to many countries around the world especially France and Canada.
The kabyles represent the largest Berber-speaking population in Algeria and the second one in Africa after the Tuareg.
Some of the most known Kabyles names are Mouloud Feraoun, Mouloud Mammeri, Ait Menguelet, Zinedine Zidane, Mohamed Fellag, Kateb Yacine, Karim Ziani, etc
Kabyle is one of the largest dialects of the Tamazight language, which is at least 13000 years of age according to traces found in North African either on painting/drawings on rocks or from underground findings. The language is written from left to right and contains 42 letters and 56 sounds, which is richer than any other language in the region.
The kabyles love to live in community but free from any colonization. This is why they are non-stop clashing with the Algerian police because of the oppression shown by the government.
Handicraft, agriculture, music, dance, jewellery, etc are only to name a few skills that the Kabyles excel at.
