The 17th of July 2010 is a very important date for the Algerian and North African community in Australia. A shop named “Berbero Saharan” has opened its doors on the day, welcoming all friends and people walking by to sip some Algerian mint tea and enjoy some Algerian cookies; people were warned not to bite their fingers while they are eating the yummy nutty cookies. Walking outside or driving on the opposite road you can already notice colourful ornaments through the huge glass front window, beautiful Algerian Kabyle and Tuareg jewellery, Moroccan lanterns, Algerian Berber rugs, Algerian Berber pottery and ceramic, leather poofs, huge mirrors, paintings, clothes and much more.

Hacene, the owner, said that this is just the beginning and he has promised that he will make the Algerian and North African Berber culture and handicraft known in Australia as Algeria and the Berbers have a lot to offer to the world with pride and head up.

Hacene is importing handicraft straight from Algeria and promote and sell them online http://berberosaharan.com and at the shop. Hacene wishes that more Algerian and North African shops and restaurants will open in the near future.
